battle against screens

Image
I can't believe the kids get so fixated on these phones, xbox...!! I feel ready to implement a couple of the suggested changes . Here's my impetus : This article I just read .... One of the ways to balance this which might be helpful for families is to be thinking about electronic games and screen time use in general as part of a healthy diet of sitting and being active. Tips for Parents:  Have clear rules about when and for how long screens can be used. Use a 5 minute/1-minute count-down warning when the time is coming to an end. Look for games that allow levels reached to be saved. Organise something fun as the next activity – so it is not about loss – it is just transition I like that I can plan one thing to implement for today too: Here is  the  article :  screen time

No pain no gain

Woke up to Gianni in wetting his bed. Rafael refused to go to his bed last night so we had already begun with one . Then Gabriella migrated in the night . Then lastly Gianni showered (thankfully as wee stinks) and climbed in as well come 6am . I woke up pretty grumpy and laughed at my lack of discipline going to sleep so late (11pm ) last night . At least I don't have a heavy addiction I consoled myself...only laziness and Netflix. Getting the kids up and to school required more faith and will then  I could muster for a moment but after tea then coffee I felt more able but then 2 of 4 were SICK AGAIN! To top it off the neighbour emailed John giving us an ultimatim about our nuisance rabbit that kept escaping . I had already decided it was a lost cause and put it up for adoption on gumtree etc I was not feeling sentimental at all . THEN I go to get stitches snipped out of my head ...lovely was looking forward to that one...NOT :-   know your cancerous moles .  At...

Standstill

Image
Today I had a cancer cut out of my scalp. It hurts but is bearable the pain . When the panadol kicks in I'm sure it will feel better. I feel more determined as a result to make happen the things I care about as who knows each of us is here. For today I must rest though . Hate that about sickness -that it puts a standstill on things . Here is a happy shot from Saturday ...I will look forward to more times like that. swan-view-tunnel-and-falls

Scary Tunnel

Image
We went cycling in the hills today to the tunnel and it WAS awesome in the wet dark cavern of the tunnel in the midddle of the day. the rain was spectacular too looking back out across Perth . What made it more special was seeing the array of people : young families , asian families , couples , groups of young bike and running enthusiasts, bushwalkers...wildflowers white and blue spotted areas and the balga trees show green against the burnt brown backdrop. The kids complaints , the children dragging feet and my own woes were bearable. Can't wait to take others through the historic tunnel - to think it was built almost 100 years before I was born. I was born in Bunbury and the iconic Lord Forrest Hotel was reminded to me when I saw the Lord Forrest plaque ...he made this tunnel happen apparantly . https://parks.dpaw.wa.gov.au/park/john-forrest

Post - Drizzle

It stormed Sunday morning extremely so . I could not conceive that it could fine up at 7am but I faithfully believed the forecast and as quick as it came... it left. At home it had hailed, flooded several doors and left a marred porch, debris scattered everywhere. I felt like this too come Monday evening . What had been a splendid day turned fast south after a glass of wine , bad interaction and a welling-up of undealt emotion . I hated it and it turned to such negative thinking the aftermath left me and others somewhat shattered . I was unsure where to start the clean up . I'd like to think it's simply a matter of not drinking etc  BUT really it's an accumulation …I can even blame COVID situation.  Pushing on and getting work done , attempting to be kind and walking in nature helped me turn the corner. Mundy Regional park stretches from the coastal plain to the top of the Darling Scarp to Lesmurdie Falls. Sections of the park provide a virtually unbroken belt of scarp wo...

The lost and found rabbit ...and the torment it caused

Image
Our two rabbits are silky and such a comfort to us. I feel silly as an adult enjoying stroking them so much but...I have ended up frequently being the one to upend their stinky overnight holding bay too...seems I'm the one who can't stand the smell. I love that the kids are drawn to find out the facts about their animals and see how they interat with each other and humans (and cars) . Here are some links as you will see in the picture we have two very different varieties of rabbit:  poster of the types . Here's info about them I need to brush up on :  rabbit-breeds  Imagine having a french angora rabbit ...sounds like a fancy jumper . Ahyway, last night I came home to a panic - Gabriella could not locate the white one. She ran desperte around the house and out searching for it. Then last moment Nicky , tired as she was, helped once more to look for it and FOUND IT. Can you see her relief?!

Biography that tore my heart

Yesterday I went to the library for the first time in months . I found lots of books in the library that got me excited of what I got learn, teach and simply enjoy. I resisted the urge to get a declutter book even though that's always a need here at home. Anyhow I got caught up reading a real account of a boy made to be a slave whilst his siblings were treated like Kings. The mother got so twisted in her thoughts and whilst I saw myself in her I have not got to that extent . It was sad and sadder to see how his father, relatives etc waited an eternity to act in his defence. I was crying embarrased in the library reading it. Anyway I was amazed at his resilience , that once he'd escaped (through help of the police) he was able to be so positive and self-determine his life . In a sense he felt he'd been given a second chance so wanted to make his life count. The link to the author  http://www.davepelzer.com/  and the book :
